Interview with Matteo Miceli – Sailing Toward Sustainable Futures

We had the incredible opportunity to interview Matteo Miceli, Italian solo sailor and pioneer of sustainable innovation at sea. Known for building and testing the ECO40—a fully self-sufficient sailing boat—Miceli completed the Rome Ocean World Tour without stopping or using external energy sources.

Conducted aboard the ECO40 itself, our conversation explored how sailing becomes a radical site for experimenting with resilience, autonomy, and sustainability in extreme contexts. Miceli’s project pushes the boundaries of what is possible in terms of renewable energyclosed-loop systems, and minimal ecological impact—inspiring new ways to think about sustainability not only on the ocean, but also on land.

His journey is more than an adventure—it’s a vision of social innovation grounded in ecological awareness and technological ingenuity.

Stay tuned for the full interview and reflections from the deck of ECO40.
